The Serengeti - the largest
of Tanzania's National Parks,
and one of Africa's premier
game parks.
The Serengeti is the setting for
the most awesome wildlife
spectacle on the planet!
It is here that over a million
wildebeest and zebras make
their great annual migration.
Ngorongoro Crater is one
of the last safe havens
for the near extinct
Black Rhino.
Very rare everywhere
else on earth - Ngorongoro is one
place they now find refuge
from poachers.
"Ngorongoro Carter is one
of the most abundant
wildlife ecosystems
on the planet"
In Lake Manyara, lion prides
have adopted the unusual
behavior of climbing trees!
Wide panoramas of open
acacia woodland and grassy
savanna studded with large
baobab trees mark Tarangire,
a lesser-known scenic gem
located in southern Maasailand
In conjunction with David Anderson Safaris and "Focus on Planet Earth", Shane McDermott will be escorting this great migration safari to Tanzania in May 2010.

Tanzania is to the wildlife enthusiast what Florence Italy is to the artist. It fulfills the Africa of our imagination. With over 95,000 Square miles of reserves, Tanzania is one the best game viewing countries in Africa.
The most significant geological feature that has helped create these perfect wildlife conditions is the Great Rift Valley that sweeps through East Africa. It's vastness visible from space, the Rift Valley sustains life with its rich volcanic soils, large flowing rivers and enormous lakes, including Lake Victoria (the largest in Africa) and Lake Tanganyika (the deepest in Africa, and the longest in the world).
The northern landscape is pitted with twenty large (mainly dormant) volcanoes including Mt. Kilimanjaro and Ngorongoro crater, which many consider the eighth wonder of the world!
Upon departure from your home country, we arrive in Tanzania today and transfer to our hotel. Olasiti Lodge
We need some time to adjust to the time difference between the continents and to rest from our long journey. This morning you will meet the photographers on our safari adventure. After a late breakfast, our photographic leader will lead a workshop on how to get the most from your safari. This afternoon we will take a game drive in Arusha National Park. We will explore the "Little Serengeti" plains in the south, walk to stunning gorges and waterfalls in the north, enjoy the tropical mountain rainforests, experience the diverse fauna and flora along the Momella Lakes with its rich flamingo population and discover the secret haven of the hidden Ngurdoto Crater - nick-named "little Ngorongoro" due to its stunning beauty and rich wildlife. All these highlights are towered by the shining glaciers of Kilimanjaro and the horseshoe-like cliffs at the peak of Mt. Meru – occasionally covered with snow. Arusha National Park is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful destinations in the country. Olasiti Lodge
We begin our safari with a drive to Tarangire National Park. Situated 120km (75 miles) from Arusha, Tarangire National Park is easily accessible and boasts magnificent herds of elephant and other species of wildlife. The baobab-studded landscape also plays host to a vast variety of resident and migratory bird life. Looking out over the rolling countryside the lodge is a tranquil oasis set in over 2,600 sq kms (900 sq miles) of National Park. The Tarangire flows north to south year-round and sustains an abundance of fauna and flora rarely seen elsewhere. Maramboi Luxury Tented Camp
We continue our safari with a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park. This beautiful reserve is situated under the cliffs of a huge escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, and the varied terrain includes the cliff's forests, a short Savannah plain at the bottom of the cliffs, and the shoreline and great Lake Manyara. An incredible variety of animals and birds are found here, including Manyara famous "tree climbing" lions. Manyara has been the location of much scientific research, including definitive studies on the very large herds of African elephants found here. Ngorongoro Farm House
We rise very early to begin our excursion to the nearby Lake Eyasi in the Rift Valley, still inhabited by a tribe of hunter-gatherers, the Hadzabe, a relic of ancient times who still follow a style of life similar to the humans who inhabited the Earth before the discovery of agriculture. Another interesting tribe are the Datoga or Barabaig, also called Mangati (fierce enemy) by the Maasai who expelled them from the Ngorongoro Highlands during their unstoppable advance to the south some time in the nineteenth century. In the afternoon, those interested may visit the village of Karatu or the Njia Panda school are also options for anyone interested in cultural interaction or in helping to the development of the rural communities of Africa. Those photographers not interested in visiting Lake Eyasi and the Hadzabe, have the option to go to the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day game drive. There will be an extra cost for this option to cover enterence and park fees. Ngorongoro Farm House
After an early breakfast, we continue our safari adventure to the Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro's caldera shelters the most beautiful wildlife haven left on earth. The Maasai and their cattle co-exist with the wildlife in this area, and visitors are able to appreciate this ancient interplay between wildlife and man. Interpretive game drives through the emerald plains and forests of the crater floor engender guests with a respect for the people and wildlife of this world wonder. We will have three days to explore this eighth natural wonder of the world. Ngorongoro Serena Lodge
After breakfast at the lodge, we head for our last destination, the famous Serengeti National Park. We have six full days to explore its 5,600 sq. miles. We will see cheetah, giraffe, lion, leopard, elephant - the list is endless. And each year it is the scene of the great migration where millions of wildebeest and zebra make their annual trek in search of fresh grass. Serengeti National Park is the Africa most of us have seen on television. Many National Geographic specials have been filmed here. Now we can see first hand why so many naturalists and photographers are drawn to this place.Luxury Mobile Tented Camp As well as, Mbuzi Mawe
